Morromico: A Place Where You Can Truly Disconnect

In the Pacific Coast of Colombia, deep in the jungle, on a black volcanic sand beach, is a magical, remote and unique place; Morromico. A family-owned eco-hotel, it is like no other you will ever experience and it will change you from the inside out.

GETTING TO PARADISE

I landed in Medellín (MDE) where I stayed a couple of nights before boarding a quick 30 minute charter flight to the town of Nuquí, located in an area called Chocó Department. This is the western part of Colombia between the mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Majestic mountain ranges eventually gave way to lush jungle and sea. After landing in Nuquí, a boat transfer service organized by Morromico whisked us away and so began the adventure of a lifetime.

A WARM WELCOME

After a 30-minute boat ride along the Pacific Coast, we arrived in Morromico, located in the Gulf of Tribuga. For miles and miles, there is nothing surrounding this pristine paradise except the jungle and ocean waves. The Montoya family (owners of Morromico) and their staff, greeted us with a warm Colombian welcome and invited us into their newly renovated three-story rustic main house. It has three rooms with double and single beds in each. There is also a private bungalow right off of the main house, which is where I stayed. And yes, every room has a hammock (because it is paradise). Morromico accomodates a maxiumum of ten guests total at a time, which makes it a truly intimate experience. No internet or TV makes this one of the few places left on earth where you can truly “disconnect”.

THE MEALS ALONE WILL CHANGE YOU

From fresh fish and fruit, to plantains and coconut rice, every meal is locally grown and absolutely delicious. Served around a communal dining room table, guests have the chance to connect with each other and the staff in a meaningful way without the distraction of cell phones on the table.

EXPERIENCE THE JUNGLE

I only spent five days in Morromico, but during that time I took a few trips off of Playa Morromico. However, there are many more activities to enjoy including whale watching between July and September.

UTRIA NATIONAL PARK

Walk into the rainforest and around mangroves as you experience some of the best things nature has to offer.

HOT SPRINGS IN TERMALES, NUQUÍ

Natural hot springs where you can enjoy a self-made sulfur mask treatment while you relax. Stay the day and walk around this quiet little community full of charm.

“My wish is to stay always like this, living quietly in a corner of nature.”
